Below are the different communication methods used and approved by Johnson City Schools. If your school does not have your correct contact information, we will be unable to send you messages or reach families should there be an emergency involving your student and/or their school. Please contact your school to update information and visit www.jcschools.org/communication for more information.
The district and schools’ website will be the hub of communications for all Johnson City Schools. All information that affects the entire school or district will be communicated through the district and school webpages. The district website is www.jcschools.org. All school webpages are schoolname.jcschools.org. Teachers may also use Google Sites to communicate with their families. The website can be translated by clicking the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner.
Each school’s phone number can be found on the bottom left-side of their webpage.
Each employee of Johnson City Schools has a professional e-mail ending with @jcschools.org. JCS employees are expected to maintain their e-mail and use it as an effective communication tool for dialogue between students, families and community members.
The district maintains and operates a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as a district a YouTube account, which is used to make sure that all video messages are accessible to all students and families. Families are encouraged to follow the district accounts at @JCityTNSchools for updates, news and information. Each individual school maintains a Twitter account. Some of our Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) have Facebook pages, which are maintained by the PTAs, but are not official communication from the district.
School Messenger is our emergency notification system which communicates through email, text message, and telephone calls, with our families via an automated system. The primary use of the system will be to notify our families of delayed openings, early dismissals, school closings, and emergencies. Parents are asked to provide current e-mails and phone numbers, which will be added to School Messenger system from Power School Information. After parents submit their phone number, they must text “Y” or “Yes” to 67587 in order to be eligible to receive text messages.
Canvas is our learning management system (LMS) which is used by students and teachers for instruction and materials. Parents are able to log in as observers, which allows them to keep up with their student’s progress in class and assignments. They will also receive any announcements that are sent. For instructions to sign-up as a Parent-Observer, please click here.
Elementary, intermediate and middle school teachers are asked to use the free app Bloomz as a communication tool with families. Schools do not use Bloomz, it is strictly for teacher communication to their families. For the 2020-2021 school year, some kindergarten teachers will use the SeeSaw app.
